Accessibility
Built to be usable by people of all abilities
Accessibility is a core design requirement for this site. We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA as our minimum and Level AAA wherever achievable.
Design commitments
- Semantic HTML landmarks and page headings.
- Keyboard-visible focus states and a skip link on every page.
- A persistent accessibility settings button for contrast, text size, motion, and link visibility.
- High-contrast colour pairings and readable type sizes.
- Plain-language content with Canadian English spelling.
- Reduced-motion support for all decorative animation.
- Decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology.
- Mobile-first layouts that do not require hover or fine motor control.
Ongoing checks
Accessibility will be reviewed as pages are added, including keyboard navigation, focus order, colour contrast, reduced motion, heading structure, link purpose, and screen-reader behaviour.
The accessibility settings button is fixed near the lower-left corner of the screen. It can increase contrast, enlarge text, underline links, and reduce decorative movement.
If something on the site creates a barrier, use the contact page to request a fix or an alternate format.
